What is on the USB drive that came with my system?

Drivers and software for new Windows installs

Depending on the device and the time of shipment, the included USB thumb drive contains various device drivers, software packages and documentation for our laptop and desktop PCs.

The USB thumb drive primarily serves as an offline source if you ordered your laptop or PC without an operating system or if you want to perform a clean Windows reinstallation at a later date.

Which drivers and programs you actually need depends on your specific device and hardware configuration.

Do I need to install the drivers myself?

If your system was delivered with Windows pre-installed, you do not need to reinstall the drivers from the USB drive. We have already installed the drivers and recommended software packages for your system.

The drive is then primarily available for use if you reinstall Windows at a later date.

If you install or reinstall Windows yourself, you can then use the appropriate drivers from the USB thumb drive.

You can find further information in the Readme PDF file directly on the drive.

How up to date are the drivers on the thumb drive?

The USB thumb drives are prepared in relatively large batches and therefore may not always contain the very latest driver versions by the time your system is delivered. This is not a problem for the initial installation. Newer versions can subsequently be obtained, if required, through Windows Update, our download portal or directly from the respective hardware manufacturer.

Information for laptops

For laptops, the USB thumb drive is tailored to the respective model or a group of closely related models. If the USB flash drive contains folders for several models, only use the drivers for your specific laptop model and generation identifier.

You can find the exact model name on the bottom side of your laptop, as well as in your order confirmation or invoice.

Information for desktop PCs

For desktop PCs, the thumb drive's file system is not unique to your system, because there are so many different mainboards, CPUs, graphics cards and chassis components mixed and matched in our configurator. The drive therefore also contains drivers and apps for hardware that is not installed in your actual PC.

Only install the drivers and programs that match your specific configuration. You can find the components installed in your PC in your order confirmation or invoice.

Can I also use this thumb drive for BIOS updates?

For laptops

In principle, the included USB thumb drive can also be used for BIOS updates via EFI Shell.

These drives generally have a capacity of 64 GB. For a BIOS update via the EFI Shell, however, the boot partition used must not be larger than 32 GB and must be formatted as FAT32.

To repartition the USB flash drive accordingly, search for and open "Create and format hard disk partitions" from the Windows Start menu. You can then delete the existing partition on the USB flash drive and create a new, smaller partition.

For desktop PCs

For desktop PCs, the BIOS update procedure depends on the respective mainboard. In most cases, a USB drive is not required because desktop motherboards can read a BIOS update file downloaded in Windows directly from your hard drive or SSD partition. Desktop motherboards generally also support NTFS partitions for this purpose.

For specific update instructions, please refer to the supplied user manual of the particular mainboard model installed in your PC.
